Print documents and monitors cannot display true-to-life and "real" colors. The color reproduction always looks a little different. But the wood itself also influences the color effect of a pigment oil. This is sometimes not taken into account. Here are some tips & hints on what to look out for.
MONITOR AND PRINT ARE NOT COLOR-ACCURATE

Monitors and brochures cannot reliably reproduce the color of a pigment oil on woodWhether on a monitor or in a flyer: The colors we display represent a good color impression and give an idea of which colored oil might be suitable. However, screens and brochures cannot provide a color-accurate template. Monitors work with the RGB color mode and printers with the CMYK color mode, which is why colors look different on screen than when printed.
THE WOOD SETS THE TONE
The illustration shows how differently the individual colored oils work on pine and oak.
Of course, it depends on the wood itself. The achieved color tone of an oiled parquet or piece of furniture largely depends on the base tone of the wood, as well as the type of wood and its condition. Due to its transparency, a colored oil looks completely different on oak than on light pine or spruce wood. The grain and structure also remain visible and are even emphasized. This also applies to colorless oils in "Natural", which are not pigmented. Depending on the type of oil, they deepen the natural color tone of the wood. Experts also call this effect "wet look" or "ever-wet effect".
CREATE A TEST AREA WITH COLORED OILS

For test areas, colored oils are available in 20 ml sample sizes in the shop
One of our most important tips is always: Before creating facts on a wooden surface, a sample should be applied to similarly sanded original wood. This way, you can get a better impression of the color effect of the selected pigment oil on wood. Our 20 ml sample bottles are ideal for this and can be ordered in the online shop.
SUMMARIZED TIPS:
- The colors shown are for guidance only to give a color impression.
- For a correct color impression, it is best to apply a sample to similarly sanded wood.
- The color tone of an oiled object depends on the type of wood, the condition of the wood, the base tone of the wood, and the individual working method of the user, as well as the wood sanding.
- The "OLI-NATURA Oils & Waxes" in the "Natural" version are not pigmented. Nevertheless, the grain and color of the wood are emphasized. The degree of enhancement depends on the type of oil and the type of wood used.
- The colored "OLI-NATURA Oils & Waxes" bring transparent color to the wood. Their pigments preserve the structural appearance of the wood and give the surface a natural color. At the same time, the UV-stable color pigments help to counteract the natural color change of the wood for as long as possible.
- The "OLI-NATURA Oils & Waxes" in the "White" version contain white pigments that counteract the enhancement. Depending on the proportion of pigmentation, the appearance of the wood is brightened and shows white and limed effects. The pores are colored white and stand out on the surface.
- The standard colors from a product line can be easily mixed with each other, so that a wide range of colors is available.
- Once a coloring has been chosen, it is difficult to remove it without leaving any residue, even with the most careful sanding. This is less of a problem with light-colored woods; with dark colors, one will always have to resort to a coloring again.
-
Surface preparation should always be carried out cleanly to achieve an optimal result. For furniture, we recommend a final sanding of max. 180 grit and for parquet floors 150 grit.
