OLI NATURA® hardwax oil for almost all indoor wood surfaces

Oil impregnates. Wax protects. OLI NATURA® hardwax oil is the ECARF-certified oil-wax combination for almost any indoor woodworking project. The oil impregnates the wood from within, while the wax provides additional surface protection. Customers appreciate its easy application, economical coverage, fast drying and the silky feel of the treated surface.

Which types of wood and applications is OLI NATURA® hardwax oil suitable for?

OLI NATURA® hardwax oil is the right choice if you are looking for a hardwax oil that can be used for almost any indoor woodworking project - instead of having a different wood oil in the cupboard for every application.

Whether furniture, dining table, kitchen worktop, staircase, door, wall cladding or windowsill - the oil-wax combination is suitable for almost all types of wood and wood-based materials, including maple, beech, oak, ash, spruce and pine, as well as cork, bamboo, OSB, plywood and multiplex.

The hardwax oil is particularly suitable when light woods should be subtly tinted and you want an easy-to-apply, open-pore and easy-to-repair surface.

Would you like a transparent coloured look? Then choose OLI NATURA® COLOUR hardwax oil - also available in Cotton White for the popular Scandi look. Do you prefer the more intense enhancement of the wood grain provided by a classic impregnating oil? Then OLI NATURA® Project Oil is the right choice.

How does OLI NATURA® hardwax oil change the appearance and feel of the wood?

The natural appearance of the wood is retained. The grain and structure are gently accentuated, while the surface remains open-pore and tactile. The subtle enhancement of the wood grain particularly brings light-coloured wood types into harmony. The result is a satin-matt finish. For an even more matt appearance, the surface can be polished with a white oil pad during the wet phase.
Tip: Test the hardwax oil beforehand on wood prepared in the same way and assess the colour after drying.

How easy is OLI NATURA® hardwax oil to apply?

The oil-wax combination can be applied easily and evenly. One coat is usually sufficient for furniture. A second coat is recommended for stairs and heavily used worktops - without intermediate sanding.

The surface is durable, dirt- and water-repellent, and easy to maintain. Scratches and signs of wear can be repaired locally or simply refreshed at any time - without sanding. The oil does not crack, flake or peel.

What can you rely on with OLI NATURA® hardwax oil?

Once fully cured, the surface is safe for people, animals and plants. Tested for everyday use: ECARF-certified (allergy-friendly), tested for food contact (LFGB), suitable for children's toys and approved by building authorities.

How do you care for and clean surfaces treated with OLI NATURA® hardwax oil?

Protect freshly oiled surfaces from water until they have fully cured.

Regular cleaning: Remove dust and loose dirt when dry. Vacuum or sweep parquet floors regularly to prevent sand from causing fine scratches. If necessary, wipe the surface with a damp, not wet, cloth damp, not wet and immediately soak up any standing water. For heavier soiling, use OLI NATURA® wood soap . Avoid aggressive or abrasive cleaners.

When should the surface be refreshed?

If water repellency decreases or the wood appears dry and dull, refreshing it is advisable. Clean the surface beforehand and allow it to dry completely. For hardwax-oiled floors, stairs, and furniture, OLI NATURA® wood care wax is suitable OLI NATURA® wood care wax. How often refreshing is needed depends on the level of use.

How can scratches and signs of wear be repaired?

Damaged or more heavily worn areas can be spot-sanded and treated with OLI NATURA® hardwax oil. Completely sanding down the surface is generally not necessary.

Labelling

OLI-NATURA hardwax oil is not subject to labelling requirements and is not classified as hazardous under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP). It is neither subject to mandatory labelling nor classified as dangerous goods.

⚠ Oil-soaked cloths, pads or sponges can spontaneously ignite due to heat accumulation. After use, store them airtight in a metal container or under water. Alternatively, moisten them and leave them spread out outdoors to dry completely before disposal.

P102: Keep out of reach of children.

How many coats of OLI NATURA® hardwax oil are required?

One coat is generally sufficient for furniture subject to normal wear. For stairs, kitchen countertops, and other more heavily used wood surfaces, a second thin coat is recommended.

Does OLI NATURA® hardwax oil need intermediate sanding?

No. Intermediate sanding is not required. The second coat can be applied directly to the dry surface after approximately 6–8 hours.

Why does OLI NATURA® hardwax oil sometimes remain sticky?

Usually, too much product was applied or excess oil was not completely removed after the penetration time. Apply OLI NATURA® hardwax oil thinly and carefully polish it out after 15–20 minutes. Excess product can significantly delay drying.

Why does OLI NATURA® hardwax oil not dry properly?

OLI NATURA® hardwax oil dries oxidatively and requires atmospheric oxygen to do so. Applying too much product, low temperatures, high humidity, insufficient air circulation, or covering the surface too soon can significantly delay drying and curing.

Remove all excess oil, ensure good air circulation during drying, and do not cover freshly oiled surfaces airtight until they have fully cured not cover freshly oiled surfaces airtight.

Why does the oiled surface appear blotchy or have an uneven sheen?

The causes are often an uneven sanding finish, differences in absorbency, or product left unevenly on the surface. Therefore, prepare the surface evenly, apply the hardwax oil thinly, and polish out all excess oil completely.

What final sanding finish is suitable for OLI NATURA® hardwax oil?

Grit 120–180 is ideal for good oil absorption; for finer furniture surfaces, a final sanding down to grit 240 is also possible. The finer the sanding, the lower the wood’s absorbency may be. What matters is an even sanding pattern.

Does OLI NATURA® hardwax oil change the color of the wood?

Yes, even a colorless hardwax oil enhances the grain and natural wood tone. OLI NATURA® hardwax oil brings out the wood’s color comparatively subtly and is therefore particularly suitable for light-colored woods.

Can the sheen level of OLI NATURA® hardwax oil be adjusted?

Yes. For a more matte finish, the still-wet second coat can be polished with a white pad. This gives the surface a more understated, matte appearance.

Is OLI NATURA® hardwax oil water-repellent?

Yes, once fully cured, the treated surface is water-repellent. Freshly oiled surfaces should, however, be protected from water for about 5–7 days. Absorb liquids as soon as possible and avoid standing water.

Can scratches and signs of wear be repaired?

Yes, minor damage can generally be repaired locally. Lightly sand the affected area and re-oil it with OLI NATURA® hardwax oil. Completely sanding down the entire surface is usually not necessary.

When does a surface treated with OLI NATURA® hardwax oil need to be re-oiled?

Re-oiling should be done as needed, not according to a fixed schedule. If water repellency decreases or the wood looks dry and dull, the surface should be refreshed. The maintenance required depends on the type of wood and the level of use.
