Wood can have colour - and still remain wood.

Three functions. One product. OLI-NATURA® COLOUR hardwax oil is a pigmented oil-wax combination. Plant-based oils impregnate the wood from within, carnauba wax provides additional surface protection, and lightfast colour pigments create a natural, transparent colour effect.

Colour and protection in one application. Open-pore, robust and without a lacquer character - for natural wood surfaces indoors.

Which types of wood and applications is OLI-NATURA® COLOUR hardwax oil suitable for?

OLI-NATURA® COLOUR hardwax oil is the right choice when the colour of the wood is to be changed and protected at the same time - without prior staining and subsequent separate final treatment. This saves an additional application step.

Whether furniture, dining tables, kitchen worktops, stairs, doors, wall panelling or windowsills - the pigmented hardwax oil is suitable for almost all types of wood and wood-based materials indoors, including solid wood, glued laminated timber, veneer, plywood, multiplex, OSB, bamboo and cork.

Do light woods need to remain as light as possible? Cotton White reduces the natural intensifying effect and yellowish tinge - ideal for a light Scandinavian look. Light White also visibly lightens the wood. For colourless protection, OLI-NATURA® hardwax oil Natural is the right choice.

What does wood look like after applying OLI-NATURA® COLOUR hardwax oil?

The natural wood appearance is retained. The grain and structure remain visible and tactile - only the colour changes.

The final colour effect results from the interaction between the wood and the oil. The type of wood, its natural colour and the sanding determine how the same colour will look later. A sample surface on the original wood therefore shows the colour most reliably. All colours are also available as samplers.

Cotton White reduces the natural intensifying effect and yellowish tinge on light woods. Light White also visibly lightens the wood. Dark colours appear more intense on light woods, while light colours appear correspondingly more subtle on dark woods. All colours can be mixed with one another and individually softened with OLI-NATURA® hardwax oil Natural. A second application intensifies the colour effect; with OLI-NATURA® hardwax oil Natural, it is retained.

Lightfast colour pigments slow down the natural colour change of the wood caused by UV light and help maintain the colour effect for as long as possible.

How easy is OLI-NATURA® COLOUR hardwax oil to apply?

It is easy to apply evenly. One application is usually sufficient for furniture. A second application is recommended for stairs and heavily used worktops - without intermediate sanding.

Hardwax oil is not lacquer. Apply thinly - that is sufficient. The surface is hard-wearing, dirt- and water-repellent, and easy to maintain. Scratches and signs of use can be repaired locally or simply refreshed at any time - without sanding. The oil does not crack, peel or flake. If the colour is to be retained, the second application should be made with OLI-NATURA® hardwax oil Natural.

What can you rely on with OLI-NATURA® COLOUR hardwax oil?

Once fully cured, the surface is harmless to people, animals and plants. It remains open-pore and breathable, supporting a pleasant indoor climate. Suitable for children's toys. For kitchen worktops, OLI-NATURA® hardwax oil Natural is recommended as the final coat.

PREPARATION

  • Sanding: Sand the wooden surface professionally. Final sanding for furniture: Maximum grit 240.
  • Wood moisture: 8–12 %
  • Substrate: Firm, dry, clean, sound and free from release agents.
  • Application: Bring the material and substrate to room temperature.

OPTIONAL:

  • Check the colour effect in advance on the original wood using an OLI-NATURA Sampler.
  • For tables made of tannin-rich wood (e.g. oak): Lightly wet the surface before oiling - ideally with a little PreOilCleaner in the water. This reduces the risk of water marks and tannin stains.

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • When pre-treating with OLI-NATURA Antique Reactive Stain do not wet the surface and do not clean it with PreOilCleaner Consumption depends on the type of wood, sanding and absorbency..
  • Excessive material application, low temperatures or high humidity extend the drying time.
  • APPLICATION

Shake the container well or stir thoroughly.

  1. Apply the oil thinly and evenly with a brush, roller or oil pad until the surface is completely wetted.
    Re-oil dry areas if necessary.

  2. Allow to penetrate for 15–20 minutes.

  3. After the contact time, remove all excess oil and polish the surface completely free of residue with a cotton cloth or white pad.

  4. For higher levels of use, apply a second thin coat without intermediate sanding after at least 24 hours.

  5. Coverage

1-2 coats at approx. 40-50 g/m² (approx. 20-25 m²/L).

  • Coverage varies depending on the type of wood, sanding pattern and absorbency.
  • Drying

Care & cleaning of surfaces treated with
OLI NATURA® Colour hardwax oil

Regular cleaning and appropriate care keep your surface treated with OLI NATURA® Colour hardwax oil beautiful and durable.

Clean gently
Dust furniture dry; sweep or vacuum stairs and floors regularly. Remove sand and dirt as soon as possible, as they can cause scratches. If needed, clean with OLI NATURA® wood soap using a barely damp cloth. Follow the dosage instructions and avoid standing moisture.

Refresh as needed
If the surface feels dry or dull, or if its water-repellent effect decreases, refreshing it is recommended. To do so, apply OLI NATURA® Wood Care Wax to the clean, completely dry surface. For lightly oiled surfaces, we recommend OLI NATURA® Refresher. How often care is needed depends on the level of use. Follow the application instructions for the respective product.

Touch up damaged areas
If needed, lightly sand and remove dust from damaged areas, then apply a thin coat of OLI NATURA® Colour hardwax oil in the originally used colour . Test the colour effect first in an inconspicuous area. Remove excess material and polish. After drying, apply a thin coat of OLI NATURA® Natural hardwax oil and polish it as well.

Protect freshly oiled surfaces
For the first 5–7 days protect from moisture and do not clean or care for the surface when wet.

Labelling

OLI-NATURA hardwax oil is not subject to labelling requirements and is not classified as hazardous under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP). It is neither subject to labelling requirements nor classified as dangerous goods.

Safety instructions

P102: Keep out of reach of children.

Does the wood grain remain visible?

Yes. The transparent color pigments tint the wood without concealing the grain or structure. The natural wood appearance is retained - only the color tone changes. The darker the selected color tone, the more strongly the visual effect of the wood grain changes.

Why does the same color tone look different on different types of wood?

Each type of wood has its own natural color, structure, and absorbency. That is why the same color tone looks different on oak, beech, or spruce. Sanding and the amount applied also affect the color result. A test area on the original wood shows the subsequent color tone most reliably.

Which white tone is suitable for the Scandinavian look?

Cotton White reduces the natural enhancement and yellow tint on light-colored woods. Light White also visibly lightens the wood and creates a stronger white effect. Which variant is more suitable depends on the type of wood and the desired result.

Does colorless hardwax oil need to be applied after the first coat?

No. One coat is usually sufficient for normally used furniture. A second coat is recommended for stairs, worktops, or other more heavily used wooden surfaces. COLOUR hardwax oil intensifies the color effect. If it is to be retained, OLI-NATURA® hardwax oil Natural is recommended as the final coat.

Can I apply a new color tone to wood that has already been oiled?

No. Previously oiled wood surfaces are saturated with oil and can no longer absorb new color pigments evenly. A different color may therefore appear blotchy or uneven. For a reliable color change, the existing oil treatment should be completely removed and the wood sanded back to bare wood.

Can I use OLI-NATURA® COLOUR hardwax oil on lacquered wood?

No. Lacquered or coated wood surfaces do not absorb the oil. For a durable bond, the existing coating must be completely removed and the wood sanded back to bare wood.

How can I prevent cloudiness or blotches?

The most common causes are uneven sanding or applying too much product. hardwax oil is not lacquer and should be applied thinly. Sand the wood evenly, remove all sanding dust, and apply the oil thinly and evenly. Carefully remove excess material after a short penetration time. A test area on the original wood helps you assess the application process and color effect in advance.

Can I mix different colors?

Yes. All colors can be mixed with one another. They can also be individually toned down with OLI-NATURA® hardwax oil Natural. A second coat of COLOUR hardwax oil intensifies the color effect.

How many coats are required?

One coat is usually sufficient for furniture. A second coat is recommended for wood surfaces subject to heavier wear, such as stairs or countertops. This can be applied after just 24 hours. A second coat of COLOUR hardwax oil intensifies the color effect, while a second coat of OLI-NATURA® hardwax oil Natural preserves it.
