For many, our OLI-NATURA Linseed Oil Varnish is the most original and beautiful way to naturally protect wood indoors and outdoors. It is absolutely organic, vegan, non-toxic and certified food safe. It is produced in a gentle cooking process exclusively from cold-pressed linseed oil with a minimal drying additive. After curing, it forms a clear, water-repellent protective layer of linoxin. Linseed oil varnish deepens the grain and natural color of the wood. Especially light woods get a pleasant honey tone.
Applied undiluted and several times, it provides effective protection against harsh environmental influences. However, if you apply several coats, you will need some time and patience, because the required drying of the applied coat takes several hours with linseed oil varnish. Only then is it possible to proceed with the next steps.
Organic & Ecological
To extract linseed oil, the seeds of the flax plant (also called flax) are cold-pressed. In the case of flax, this is very efficient because flaxseed consists of about 90% linseed oil. To prevent the oil from going rancid in the wood, it is cleaned, deslimed and finely filtered. To accelerate the curing process, the cold-pressed linseed oil is cooked and mixed with a siccative. This turns the linseed oil into a linseed oil varnish. The siccative, by the way, is a new generation manganese dryer that is naturally free of lead salts and cobalt.
Food safe
To guarantee safety, our OLI-NATURA Linseed Oil Varnish was tested and certified for food safety by an independent testing laboratory according to Regulation (EC) No.: 1935/2004. Authenticity and migration tests were also included in the testing: Our OLI-NATURA Linseed Oil Varnish fell significantly below the permitted limit of 0.6 manganese mg/kg with
< 0.01 manganese mg/kg. This means that our OLI-NATURA Linseed Oil Varnish can be safely used on wooden surfaces that come into contact with food: on dining tables, worktops, cheese boards, snack boards or knife blocks.
General rule
The absorbency of the wood depends on the type and nature of the wood, the working method of the user and the wood sanding. In general:
- What the wood absorbs, it must also receive.
- What the wood does not absorb, must be removed while still wet.
At the same time, the protective effect must be refreshed again and again by occasional re-oiling. Superficial scratches or damage do not expose unprotected wood in an oiled wooden surface, as the oil protects the wood from the inside. Fine nicks or scratches can therefore also be easily repaired: simply sand the areas and re-oil. A possible color difference will equalize over time.
NOTE ON THE DANGER OF SELF-IGNITION!
Special attention should be paid to oil-soaked rags and cloths, which can self-ignite due to heat build-up. This is because naturally drying oils cure by absorbing atmospheric oxygen. This generates heat, which is normally released into the environment and is completely harmless. In oil-soaked and crumpled rags, cloths, pads or sponges, however, the heat cannot escape, so that in the worst case they can self-ignite. You should therefore never carelessly leave oily cloths or rags lying around, but soak them with water and hang them outdoors to dry. Once treated in this way, they can be disposed of safely after drying. Alternatively, oil-soaked rags and sponges can also be stored under water or temporarily stored in an airtight container.
