Oak wood is so popular that many processors like to give it an aged look with OLI-NATURA ANTIQUE.
Oak, oak, oak: whether as floorboards, wall cladding, wooden stairs, or tables. Oak wood is so popular that many processors like to give it an aged look. This is where »OLI-NATURA Antique« comes in. This aging stain is water-based, user-friendly, odorless, and safe for both the environment and health. The effectiveness of »OLI-NATURA Antique« is based on a reaction with the tannic acid components in oak, giving the wood an aged appearance. The product is suitable for both industrial and artisanal processing.
THE PRINCIPLE OF REACTIVE STAIN
Reactive stains create their effects by reacting with the tannins in the wood, resulting in an aging and graying effect. Oak wood has a particularly high tannin content, but woods like walnut and ash also contain tannins. The varying amounts of tannins in different woods lead to natural color differences, giving the wood its unique character.
The VOC-free reactive stain »OLI-NATURA Antique« is based precisely on this principle. It is available in three color intensities: "pickled," "smoked," and "black smoked." The intensity of the discoloration varies depending on the shade, the amount applied, and the acid content of the wood.
To achieve the desired transformation result on oak wood, the stain is applied once or twice. It penetrates deep into the wood pores and reacts immediately with the tannins in the oak. The result is an optical graying that becomes visible directly after application. Even after the water has evaporated, the gray color remains, while the natural structure of the wood is preserved. The final color tone is determined by subsequent surface treatment with colorless or colored OLI-NATURA oils & waxes.
EASY APPLICATION
»OLI-NATURA Antique« is easy to apply. Before use, the contents should be shaken well. The stain is then applied to the finely sanded wood along the grain. Excess stain can be easily removed with a sponge or cloth. When sanding, a fine grit ensures a smooth surface, while a coarser grit creates a rustic look. For floors, application with a roller is recommended. For furniture pieces, the stain can be applied with a sponge, brush, or spray gun.
The aqueous aging stain should be applied generously to penetrate deep into the wood pores. This leads to a stronger tannic acid reaction. Additionally, this pre-treatment technique increases the absorbency of the wood surface, which optimizes the penetration depth of the subsequent oil application.
After the wood is completely dry, the wood fibers, which have risen due to the water content of the stain, are trimmed with sharp sandpaper. After dedusting, the stained wood surface can be treated with OLI-NATURA oils & waxes.
OILING AFTER STAINING
Staining alone does not protect the wood. Therefore, an oil should be applied to the stained surface afterward. You can choose between colorless or colored OLI-NATURA oils & waxes. Thanks to various combination possibilities, many different surface effects are possible. For example, the combination of "Antique-smoked" and "OLI-NATURA Worktop-Oil" creates a finish reminiscent of old wood. A deep black can be achieved with the combination of "Antique-Black smoked" and Colour-Oils "Pepper Black" or "Midnight-Black". For intensified "White Wash" or "Black Wash" effects, we recommend post-treatment with OLI-NATURA HS Profiöl or OLI-NATURA Colour-Oil in white, grey, or black.
STEP-BY-STEP:

1) Before staining, the surface is sanded and then thoroughly dedusted.

2) Afterwards, the stain is generously and evenly applied along the grain with a brush, sponge, or roller.
For industrial application, »OLI-NATURA Antique« can also be processed via roller coating.

3) Allow the wood surface to dry long enough after staining.

4) After complete drying, the raised wood fibers, which have risen due to the water, are trimmed with a fine-grained sanding sponge or sandpaper (e.g., P220). Then thoroughly dedust.

5) Now, a surface treatment with colorless or colored OLI-NATURA oils can follow.
