Without shipping pallets, nothing moves in freight transport. But the inconspicuous shipping pallet can do even more. It has now become the favourite building material of the upcycling movement. Today, pallet furniture for indoors and outdoors is made from this extremely interesting material. The raw material now appeals to all age groups and milieux around the globe. It is the new trend material that is simply reassembled. In addition, pallet furniture is stable, cost-effective, natural, and above all, sustainable. No wonder that increasingly, discarded Euro pallets are leading a new life as coffee tables, double beds, bookshelves, or lounge garden furniture.

Also suitable for DIY

The new popularity of wooden pallets has long since reached creative furniture manufacturers. They build and sell handcrafted pallet furniture that has nothing in common with quickly slapped-together furnishings. Rather, they are creative, unique pieces of furniture made from recycled pallet wood that are guaranteed to make guests envious. But you don't have to be a carpenter to make pallet furniture. With a little craftsmanship, you can easily build a bed or a table yourself from the prefabricated wooden elements. In addition, the internet offers plenty of ideas, tips, and step-by-step instructions on "how to build pallet furniture yourself."

Painting pallet wood with wood oil in the direction of the grain

Basically, Euro pallets are very durable and require little maintenance. If you don't like the raw wood, you can treat it with OLI-NATURA oils & waxes. The oils and waxes are not just pleasing to the eye – they also protect the wood from within. For pallets used indoors and outdoors, »OLI-NATURA Boiled Linseed Oil« and »OLI-NATURA Yacht & Teak Oil« are particularly suitable. For indoor furniture, however, »OLI-NATURA Hard Wax Oil« is also recommended. In general, pallets should be thoroughly cleaned and sanded before painting. Then apply the oil evenly and thinly in the direction of the wood grain and let it soak in briefly. Heavily absorbent wood may need a second coat. Remove any excess oil with a cotton cloth. The oiled surface can be reworked very well, which is not possible with varnished surfaces. The affected area can be easily sanded partially and simply re-oiled.
